Company Policy Changes for 2010
These are the changes that Mistie May Studios will be enacting come Jan. 1st 2010.
1) All sessions will require a half down deposit. NO EXCEPTION!
This keeps my no call no show rate down. I have had too many of these and this will ensure you will show up for your session. My time is worth something. If you schedule & don’t show. Then that’s like you missing a day of work. A few missed days of work and your bills don’t get paid.

2) All session will have a pre-session meeting. Unless it’s a special themed event. All pre-session meetings will be held no later than 2 weeks before your session.
The pre-session meetings are VERY important. This meeting allows you the client to meet me face to face. We get to sit down and talk about your session in detail. I can get your measurements for your outfit. I can get the color scheme down. I get to see your face & your skin tone to make sure I have something that compliments your skin tone & the set.
They are scheduled 2 weeks before your actual shoot date to insure that I have EVERYTHING that I need for your session. That includes wardrobe, accessories, props, backgrounds, etc. The pre-session meeting is also when the deposit for your session is made. This is also when your actual shoot date is set in stone. Once that deposits paid NO ONE can have your session date & time. Also if you live out of town the pre-session meeting is held over the phone. Same rules apply as in person meetings. Deposits will be paid & your date will be set. Only difference is we are on the phone & not in person. All over the phone deposits are made at .
Also I will NOT set your desired date or time unless the deposits paid. If someone else wants the same time and pays the deposit I will allow them to have your desired spot. This is why you have to get your deposits in quickly if you want a specific date & time!

3) As of Jan 1st 2010 men are no longer allowed to attend any vintage or boudoir sessions. There is NO exception to this rule. I have had some very negative experiences this year with significant others stealing their ladies moment. I refuse to allow this to happen again. When you are here for your vintage or boudoir session you are here for you. This is your time & not theirs! If you cant trust me and come by yourself then I am not your photographer. I am a female, not some creepy old guy just taking girlie photos. I pride myself in having a fun atmosphere when shooting. You can ask any of my clients that I have worked with and they will tell you that they felt safe and secure here. Plus they had tons of fun! This is also why the pre-session meeting is SO important. It allows you the client to meet me & get to know me.

4)The only male allowed in the sessions is my boyfriend Jesse. He is my asst. when I need him. He is VERY professional and is more worried about making you crack up and smile than look at you. He makes sessions a lot of fun and is the Mistie May Studios official “Reflector Boy”. I’m so getting him a super hero shirt! He also knows that when I tell him to scram he scrams. Because I know not all of you will be comfy with him being around.
 5) If my contract isn’t signed we will NOT shoot. That contract protects both you and I. It lets you know your rights as a client and lets you know my rights as a photographer. I will not argue, amend, change, or discuss changing anything in this contract. It was professionally written & was approved by a lawyer. There is nothing shady about it. If a photographer doesn’t have you sign a contract you should be suspicious. It is standard procedure for photographers to have contracts.

6) All prices are non-negotiable. I will not discount something just because you think I’m charging too much. I work very very hard to bring you the special props and themes. I cant offer you one of a kind sets without the proper means of paying for them. You wouldn’t ask an architect to build a house without the proper tools would you?

7)All image pick ups will be scheduled for Mondays. I understand that you cant always just pop in. But I cant be strapped to my house 24/7 either waiting for people to pick up their orders.Buisness hours are 10am - 6pm

8)Also if you wish for me to mail your images to you the S&H is now $10.00. S&H can get very expensive depending on how much and how many I have to send. If you ordered actual prints S&H can get VERY expensive. If its a large print then the S&H will be higher. So the $10.00 price can flux.
9) All deposits will be paid through . This rule applies to the special themed events & clients who are coming from out of town & had their pre-session meeting over the phone.
10) As of Jan 1st 2010 all session images will be on a high quality c.d. The images are high res 5x7’s. Meaning that the images on the c.d. will only print in 5x7 or smaller. If you want something printed bigger it will be subject to my print fee. I use a very high end lab that takes very good care of my images. I can garuntee their quality. I can not garuntee walmart or any other labs quality. So there for I refuse to allow my work to be printed on crappy paper or with bad inks above a 5x7. Most dont realize this. But printing matters. If it looks crappy from the print that reflects on me as a photographer. Which is why I try to offer the highest quality prints I can find. You will have both your 5x7 images as well as a web sized watermarked images. I give you the web sized images as a courtesy. I DO NOT have to do this. But its my gift to you. I do watch all of my images very closely. When you post online you are NOT allowed to crop the web sized images at all. It states this in my contract. The watermark is there to protect both you and I from online theft. I’ve seen too many times someone’s face end up on a billboard that they didn’t authorize. The watermark makes it harder to steal. I also will be putting meta data in all my images as well. This is a another way for me to protect both you & I from internet theft. I take my images and business VERY seriously. I also watch like a hawk!

Ok my loverlies... I am so looking forward to 2010!

I have had so much fun this year with all the gorgeous dolls who have graced my door. I cant wait to see who comes in this new year!

That’s right!!
Mistie May Studios is moving out of Oklahoma!
We will be moving to New Port News Virginia in 2010!

Why you might be wondering...
I shall tell you!!

First of all I want to thank all of my ladies and couples who have allowed me to photograph your wonderful faces!
You truely mean alot to me!
I am moving because
1) I have always wanted to live on the east coast and nows my chance.
2) My photography doesnt have much of a market here in this part of the country.
3) I want to bring forth some of my more alternative work which again isnt well recieved here.

I am not and never will be a family photographer,a child photographer,or a wedding photographer.
Its just not what I enjoy.
I enjoy making beautiful images of ladies and watching them feel good about themselves even if its just for that moment of their day.
I want to thank all of you for allowing me to photograph your gorgeous faces.I have truely enjoyed getting to know each of you.I can honestly say that I can call a few of you friends! Which in my book is always a plus!
Just know that you helped build the foundation of my company and for that thank you is just not enough!
I do have to come back to Oklahoma because my family is here.So I will try to have an event once a year when I come back home. But after I move I am not sure how long it will be before I can materialize such events. So now is the time get in and get your very own Mistie May images!
I will be gone in Feb & possibly a week or so in May.But other than that we are open to bookings!
I will have lots of themes & sales from now until we move!
Thank you again for letting me photograph you gorgeous dollfaces and I look forward to photographing many more of you before we head east!!!

Comings & Goings,Then All Things Inbetween

Hello my loverlies!

Well as you know Sept's Delectable Housewives has gone.I do have to say it was a HUGE success.Thank you to all the ladies who participated & who made it one of my most fun events yet (not that I've had that many but ya know).

I will have the slideshow of that up as soon as I get all the ladies orders in.Im still waiting on two lovlerlies to get back to me.

So now that Oct. is here we have a new event. The Bewitching Beauties event.

Its been so fun so far. Here is a sneak peek of what it looks like...

We are having alot of fun with this event. If your interested please feel free to contact me and get your session booked before oct flies off!

Also christmas is just around the corner! If you are wanting to give your man something truely special or give her something she will NEVER forget contact me about booking sessions.

My sessions are great for gifts or just a day to make yourself feel oh so special. They are also a way to get that special someone to drop their jaw and have their eye's pop outta their heads by your beauty.

I will have events for both Nov & Dec.The christmas theme will be Mrs. Clause & Snow Bunnies.

These sets are going to run 150.00's a piece. But if you wish to do both sets then I'll knock 50 bucks off the 2nd set which makes both themes only 250.00's! Thats a savings of 50 bucks! Talk about wow! Military discounts do apply to these sessions. The only sessions that it doesnt are my 50.00 sets.

Also come Jan 1st there will be several changes to my buisness structure.I am realizing the cost of providing such things as wardrobe, props, etc and so there will be some increases in price.Nothing huge though I promise. But be looking for those updates before the 1st of the year.

I also want to bring attention to some other forms of photography that I provide.I am getting known for my pin-up which is FREAKIN AWESOME!..I do so love what I do and pin-up is becoming a small obsession.I find it so wonderful to create something from the past and bring it into the modern time.To make it accessable to so many ladies. But I also do several other types of photography that I am going to start emplimenting.

For those who know me.I am a modeling photographer.Ive worked with models my whole career which is coming up on its 12th yr!Im so greatful for all the experiance that I have been blessed with. Not all of it was pleasent but it was valid. We all pay our dues and get drug through the mudd.If your a real photogapher that is just part of the process.Ive slept on hardwood floors, starved, shot in the snow without proper winter clothing.Photographed bands, created edgy sometimes gorey artwork.Raised some eyebrowns and made mothers cry(in a good way).Been published 3 times and under my old persona was semi-known world wide for my dark/horror work. Those who dont know me dont realize how much Ive actually done.I myself sit back and think to myself.."damn girl you've been so far and yet are just an artist who loves doing what you do."

Alot of people go into photography because they "think they want" to be a photographer. But honestly dont realize how painful the process is.If you want to be a TRUE photog then get ready to give up your sleep, sanity, and life.To be a REAL photographer means you eat, sleep, breath,& shit the buisness.Talent doesnt get you everywhere.I learned that one the hard way.

I dont create because I want to.I create because I have to.I have a motto I go by..

Live to create & create to live. Its how I live my life. There isnt a part of me that doesnt want to create something. So for what I do ..I do it all..

I normally create all the hair accessories for my shoots.I design and come up with all the themes.I style the hair & do the makeup (unless its a group thing then I hire out).I shoot everything myself plus all the editing. My work days when I buckle down to work are 12 to 16hr days.

So because of all this I want to offer alot of differant things in way of "girly" photography.

I want to start bringing in my fashion experiance & training. How would you like your very own fashion beauty shots?

How would you like to feel like the vogue model for a day?

I also would love to get back to my highly creative roots.I love dark gothic/horror photography and artwork. So if your an alternative soul who doesnt want fluff or sweet I'm your girl.Im not afraid of scary subject matter.

I also love doing just really beautiful images. So bring on the burlesque & the boudoir! The one thing that alot of women are worried about is that buleasque & boudoir require nudity. It so doesnt.Thats totally up to each and every subject on an individual level. If you just really beautifully sexy images for your special someone but dont wanna show all..No problem!

You would be amazed at how much clothing can make the eyes wonder.I want to start working with my clients on a personal level.I want your personalities and your natural beauty to shine through! Whats the point of an image of you if you cant see who you really are through it?

Also I would love to photograph more dancers. If your a dancer (more classical than exotic) & want portraits then contact me.When I say portraits I mean not your traditional sort of portraits.I see things grand and in magazine form.Im not afraid of locations or ideas (as long as spiders arent involved we are good seriously).

So below are the types of photogaphy I offer. You may not see all of it in my galleries on myspace or facebook but that doesnt mean Ive never done it.

Vintage Pin-up

Old Hollywood Glamour

Modeling/Acting porfolios

Promo Images (bands,performers)

Couples & Engagements

Bridal (I shoot more fashion mag than traditional.Im not really a traditional type of gal)

I have pricing structures for all styles.I am sorry but I'm not a family photographer or a wedding photogarpher.I have done both and just dont enjoy it.Im also not a childrens photographer.

Thank you to all my wonderful clients I've had this year. You have truely made my year alot happier since I had to start it out without my baby sister.I keep on creating in her memory. She was always my biggest fan and best model I ever had.

Each time I see one of my ladies leave a session with their head held high and truely happy. It reminds me of when I would photograph her beautiful face and the reaction to all the photos I did for her.

I am truely blessed to have such amazingly wonderful clients.I look forward to photographing all of you dollfaces more and I look forward to ALL of the new clients I will meet and get to photograph.Your smiles give me a wondeful light to my day!

That is all for now my loverlies!

A Must Watch 4 All Photogs & Potential Clients

Below is the link to a video that I think everyone needs to see.Its about a british couple who sued their photographer for their wedding photos being ruined. If your a wannabe photographer or a professional who is thinking about taking on weddings then watch this video. If your a client who's looking for a wedding photographer use this video to earn to be very picky about the photographer you choose to document your day.I can speak from personal experiance about how difficult weddings really are. They are a one time deal.Do or die,no do overs. They are very stressful for this reason. When your the photographer you tend to end up doing other things at the wedding as well. You become an extra set of hands if so needed.Your a cousiler/psychitrist because the bride will be all over the place.Plus you are a history recorder because you are paid to document that very special day.You are the most important part of their wedding.Because after all is said and done with YOU and only YOU will give them their visual reminder. So think before you want to tak on weddings.Do your research...and clients be picky. There are THOUSANDS of wannabe's out there who talk one way and produce the other.Dont let your memories be ruined.

Walmart portrait studio does weddings!? ARE YOU SERIOUS! EWW!

I am going to apologize in advance for this rant. But its warrented! Its a long read. You've been warned!

I just found out today that walmart is going to be offering wedding and event coverage in certain cities. No this doesnt effect me just yet.Doesnt really effect me anyway. But its the odacity of it all truthfully.I know alot of people use the chain portrait studios because they dont think they can afford anything else. But I can prove to you that 90% of the customers who use chain stores (walmart, sears, olen mills) spend as much there as an independant.

I use to be the asst mgr for the sears studio here in Lawton.I saw on a regular occassion people come in only wanting to spend lets say 100 bucks, but leave spending 4 to 5 hundreded dollars for a session.Especially for that new baby or the 25 family member portrait session.

You get shit quality..yes I said shit quality. For example those studios are NOT ment to photograph more than 10 people. When you get more than that they shoot of the backgraounds. There is no amount of photoshop to fix that there. So you get a photo with the floor & walls exposed just to fit 25 people in a shot.Complete with background railing at the top.It use to drive me INSANE when we had to shoot that because I wanted to fix it.Make it nice for the family because those are heirloom shots.

On top of that for these chain stores there is NO experiance required.Thats right joe blow off the road can come in and get a job even if they've NEVER held a camera in their life.So there is no amount of talent that goes on.Its rare to find someone who's had years of photography experiance when you book with them.On top of that your getting raw untouched files. They say their "enhancing" but its a smoke screen. All they do is click black and white here.Do a sepia tone here.OOOO lets add a frosty vingnette.

Yes I do like some of their effects they produce. but I can do the same thing here with more detail. At chain stores your a # on a convayer belt. You get no time taken...They dont care if you want 3hrs of time. You get 1 and maybe 1. Im just so tired of the "just anyone can do photography" attitude.NO not just anyone can. Here's the differance. Walmart,Sears,Olen Mills is NOT going to spend hours and hours mulling over your photos to make sure every detail is perfect.Walmart,Sears,& Olen Mills is NOT going to spend hours with you to make sure that you are doing well, that every detail is fussed over. That every moment is documented...

I think not.

They will have a time limit..they will have a book they have to go by to shoot your wedding..and lets not even think about the quality.Do you realize that you do not have to have ANY experiance to become a photographer at these places.Thats right..

So here it is your wedding day. You've hired picture me studios (walmart) to shoot it.A half hung over college student shows up with camera to shoot your big day.Never shot a wedding in his/her life much less anything else of importance. Are you telling me that for 500 bucks your willing to let your images be messed up!?Are you comfortable with your wedding day images being nothing like you imagined.Remember in the photography world you get what you pay for!

I do understand there are people who cant afford more than that. But by the time you are done getting the extra's you just fell in love with I bet you have spent over a grand! So why not pay for the experiance & the quality of an independant photographer?

There is a reason photographers charge what they do.Real professional photographers DO look at details, DO mull over your photos for hours in the editing process. DO try to make it as painless as possible. That way when you get your wedding photos your blown away. Real professionals will do things the big chains stores will not.

We go the mile while they take the shortcut and bank!

The photography buisness is not easy. Not easy at all.Its one of the most up and down buisnesses around.Sometimes your booked solid.Sometimes you cant get a booking even if you were showin leg on the corner. But if your a true professional you love what you do.We put up with it because all that matters is that you our precious clients are happy!

We will work 16 to 18 hours a day editing to make sure everythings perfect.Yes I said 16 to 18hours a day.I along with many other photographers dont sleep much because there is always so much to do.We might get between 4 to 6 hrs of sleep a night because there's always editing, orders to be filled, marketing to be sent out, emails to be checked etc etc.Not to mention just being there when our clients need to ask questions.

So before you decide that you want a chain store to take some of the most precious images of your life.Think to yourself...

"Do they really care about me and my day? or is it just another dollar in the bank?"

I can give you the answer. But I wont. Same goes for regular portraiture. You will not get special lighting,or artistic graphics that you oo and aww over at chain stores.Everything looks the same...

Also another thing to remember. At chain stores the book for numbers. For example at the Sears studio they are allowed to book each shooting room every 15mins.So lets just look at this for a moment.

There are 4 15min blocks in an hour.Lets say you have 3 shooting rooms. That means 12 appointments in 1 hour for that studio. Now lets look at christmas. They are normally open from 8am to 10pm.

So if you have 3 shooting rooms your looking at over 100 appointments for 1 day!

Thats WAY WAY WAY too much for one establishment. You also cant keep up good high quality images like this. Now lets toss in that most children just simply dont want to and that doesnt matter the age.So here you are trying to get good shots of a family in 15mins.Not gonna happen.Your normally backed up by hour 2!
With independants that doesnt happen. They book to serve you and your family. Most of the time sessions last a few hours, depending on the session type.

Ok I am going to step off my soap box now.Thank you for reading.. Before you book your wedding.Shop around...Look at photographers work.Book a meeting to met the photographer.Ask to see work in person.Ask the questions and get your info straight.Knowledge is the key my dears..knowledge is the key! Remember you get what you pay for...and by the time you think you wont spend more at chain stores your down 300 bucks for cookie cutter everybody looks the same photography.Go with a good independant photographer and be truely satisfied!

Mistie May Studios & Think Pink

Mistie May Studios is excited to announce a partnership with Think Pink Photography. Think Pink Photography was founded in October 2007 to support individuals and their families who have been touched by breast cancer. We are a charitable organization that serves two main purposes – celebrating life and supporting the cause.
Through our professional photographer network, we are helping breast cancer patients to celebrate life with charitable photography sessions. Individuals may choose to document their fight against the disease before or during treatment, or prefer to capture their victory by scheduling a session within 12 months after treatment is completed. Photographers world-wide are now available to donate time and talent to celebrate life and support the cause. There is no cost or obligation to the breast cancer patient. Clients participating in a Think Pink Session will receive a complimentary photo session, as well as a set of 10 small prints from the session. They will also receive a discount on any additional portraits they wish to purchase, although there is absolutely no purchase required at any time.
To support the cause, we have partnered with The Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation. All funds generated through donations and various fundraising efforts are paid directly to The Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation. As a 3-time breast cancer survivor, Danielle Beverly and her husband Eric joined together to form a foundation dedicated to promoting education, increasing awareness, and providing support and resources for families who have been touched by breast cancer.
Please subscribe to our blog (on the Think Pink website) and tell your friends and family about Think Pink Photography. Awareness is everything and we can’t be successful without you.
I encourage you to view our website, make a donation, or hire a photographer that supports Think Pink Photography! If you hire me, mention Think Pink and I will make a personal donation to the organization. If you, or someone you know, would like to schedule a Think Pink session, please contact me for details.
I am very proud to be a network photographer with Think Pink Photography, and am anxious to get the word out about this amazing program. For more information, you can contact me, or you can visit the Think Pink Photography website at:

Think Pink Photography

Hi Ladies!
I was just wanting to tell you about a wonderful charity that I was turned onto by a good friend of mine. This chairty is called Think Pink Photography. Its soul purpose is to document women as they go through and survive breast cancer. How cool is that! The disease is very close to me because one of my dearest friends is battling it right now..Here is a portrait of her I just did this weekend.

We took her and her little family out to do family portraits. There is only one person missing in the photo but its something that was very special to her.
So when I saw this charity called
Think Pink Photography I immediatly had to check it out.I read about it and was like OMG I need to be apart of this.So I signed up to join in honor of my friend and my mothers best friend.
Speaking of my mothers best friend.Grace is a survivor of the disease.Has been for a few years now.I got the honor of photographing her a few years ago and it was such a blastSorry for the weird watermark this was done before I changed my company name.

Anyway if you havent checked them out yet please do.Read about them and spread the word.

Why Professional Photographers Charge So Much..A MUST READ!

Please read this. This article explains our work process. At the end of this I will post my work process.Which far exceeds the photoshop time in this one!

A good explanation for all those people who ask and complain about why professionals charge what they do for photos:

Why are Professional Photographers so expensive?
In this digital age where everyone has digital cameras, scanners and home "photo printers", when people upload their photos to a local drug store website and pick them up a few hours later, we hear this all the time - How in the world do Professional Photographers charge $55 for an 8x10 when they cost just $1.50 at the drug store?

Here's why.

Simply put, you're not just paying for the actual photograph, you're paying for time and expertise. First, let's look at the actual time involved. If you don't read this entire page, at least read this first part.

For a two hour portrait session:
- If traveling one hour of travel to and from the session
- 30 minutes of setup, preparation, talking to the client etc.
- 2 hours of shooting
- 30 minutes to load the photos onto a computer (2 - 4 Gb of data our camera's take VERY large photos.)
- 30 minutes to back up the files on an external drive
- 3 - 4 hours of Photoshop time including cropping, contrast, color, sharpening, saving a copy for print and a copy for the internet and backing up the edited photographs.
- 2 - 3 hours to talk to the client, answer questions, receive their order and payment, order their prints, receive and verify prints, package prints, schedule shipment and drop package off at Fed Ex.
- For local customers, we also print a set of all of their photos, and meet them at our studio to review the photos and place their order. Meeting and travel time averages 2 hours. You can see how one two hour session easily turns into more than ten hours of work from start to finish. So when you see a Photographer charging a $200 session fee for a two hour photo shoot, you are not paying them $100 / hour.

For an eight hour wedding:- I won't bore you with the details, but an eight hour wedding typically amounts to at least two to three full 40 hour work weeks worth of time. Again, if they are charging you $4,000 for an eight hour wedding, you are not paying them $500 / hour.I can tell you this not only does it take this amount of time but during this time the photographer may have more than one wedding waiting for edit!

Now for the expertise.

Shooting professional photography is a skill, acquired through years of experience. Even though a quality camera now costs under $2,000 taking professional portraits involves much more than a nice camera.
Most Professional Photographers take years to go from buying their first decent camera to making money with their photography. In addition to learning how to use the camera itself, there is a mountain of other equipment involved, as well as numerous software programs used to edit and print photographs, run a website etc.
And let's not forget that you actually have to have people skills, be able to communicate, make people comfortable in front of the camera - and posing people to make them look their best in a photograph is a skill all by itself.

Think of it this way - the next time you pay $X to get your hair done, a pair of scissors only costs $1.50. But you gladly pay a lot more to hire a Professional.

What about the cheap studios at the mall?

Please don't compare us to the chain store studios. But if you must, consider all of the time and work that we put into our photographs, compared to what they do. Good luck getting a two hour photo shoot at a chain store. Not to mention they won't come to the beach! And of course, look at our work compared to theirs. You get what you pay for.

The truth is, most of the mall and chain store studios lose money. In fact, in 2007 Wal-Mart closed 500 of their portrait studios because of the financial drain they were putting on the company. What the chain stores bet on is that you'll come in for some quick and cheap photos, and while you're there, you'll also spend $200 on other things. They don't have to make money, they are just there to get you in the door.

ConclusionWe hope that those who have taken the time to read this page will have a better understanding of why professional photographs cost so much more than the ones that you get from your local drug store.Thank you for taking the time to read this.

My Work Flow

Ok now for an explaination of my work flow..In the article they didnt mention the hours of marketing we have to do.Or the mundane duties of running a buisness. But for me typically my sessions run between 2 to 10 hours depending on what they are.If I have a calendar shoot that is at least 8 to 10 hours of work and thats in studio or location..that doesnt count editing time.
For me and my studio I do all the hair and makeup at this time..(currently looking for extra hands but until then its me.)So hair and make up take between 30mins to an hr or more depending on how elaborate it is.

Then there is the shooting time. Now depending on how comfortable a person is infront of the camera depends on how long it takes me to photograph them.Plus during this time I am posing them, talkin, making them laugh to make sure their comfy, checking details like stray hairs, making sure the outfits look fab etc.Now if there are set changes in this photoshoot then that adds to the setup time. For what I do there is normally ALWAYS set changes. If there are more than one outfit thats normally new makeup and hair for each outfit.Unless the hairstyle looks good with both sets of clothes. For a calendar or coffee table book shoot its unlimited. So there are 12 months thats 12 or more changes..and up to 4 to 6 hair changes and a few makeup changes..So if Im doing all this makes for a LONG day.If the client wants more than one style the set change plus lighting change, clothing change and all.Do you see we arent even past the day of the session.I havent even gotten to editing!

Ok now Editing...

Ok now you read about the upload process and the archieving process...that is all true..We as professionals do everything in our power to make sure your images are safe. Now to editing. Most professional photographers use photoshop software with plugins (sister programs). For me I look at each image.Decide if its usable or not keep the ones open that are usable for edit and close the ones that arent. This in its self can take up to an hour because of the nature of choosing.Looking at each image to see the minor details of what makes one better than the the hair right? Is the outfit messed up?Do the props look good?Whats the over all feeling of the images? How's her expression? Is the lighting perfect? etc etc etc...Then I choose a shot and do the minor edits on them (brightness, contrast, levels, saturation, minor blemish removal). Then I save it.The minor edits are what I show clients so they can choose the images they want fully edited. For minor edits It takes me a few hours to make sure their pefect depending on the amount of images. Then after the client has chosen their images for full edits thats when the hours come in for editing. For this image here:

The background has to be totally replaced. Then I hand painted all those bubbles you see in this shot.None of those were there in the original..
Those bubbles alone took me over 3hrs or more to get right. To make sure it looked like the lighting on the bubbles matched the lighting on the client for believablity. So for this image I can safely say it was between 4 to 6 hours of solid editing. That was just one shot from the set.Just one!So now think about this..Depending on the session you have depends on how extensive the edits. So in my mini session you get 3 fully edited shots..depending on the session's theme & such your lookin at at least 30 to 40 hours of work for just your session..Thats a full work week...& we as photographers have more than one session we edit at the same time.We normally work on more than one in a day.Sometimes putting in 12 to 16 hours in front of a computer just to make sure our clients have their images on time!..So now that you have read this I do hope you have a better understanding of why we charge what we do.The personal time we take to make sure each one of you have the most fabulous photos you've ever had!Thank you for reading this!...I cant wait to hear some feed back from each of you!!...Fellow photogs feel free to repost!!!
